The first thing you need to do to tell the difference between a male crayfish and a female crayfish. The female crayfish have long swimmerets and an egg pore. The males on the other hand have short swimmerets and modified swimmerets.
Try to get a big (huge) tub or tank and have lots of hiding places for the crayfish. Get gravel and plants. Then, buy a few female and male crayfish. It's hard to tell if the crayfish are breeding. But once they lay eggs, it's possible that they did mate. If the crayfish you bought already had eggs, then you have to ask the store if she was with any males. If not, then the eggs won't fertilize.
When the eggs hatch, they will stay attached to their mother for a short period of time. Then, she should be removed from the tank, therefore she might eat her babies.
The baby crayfish can be feed blanched cabbage leafs or lettuce leaves, and also consume detritus in the tank. As the crayfish grow, the larger ones should be removed from the tank as they will feed voraciously on the smaller crayfish.
